The board of supervisors meeting to discuss the state’s choice of a Flynn Road site for the new San Benito County Courthouse has been moved to April 21.

Representatives from the California Administrative Office of the Courts will attend the Hollister City Council and San Benito County Board of Supervisors meetings April 21 and 22, respectively. The public is invited to both events.

The courthouse move has been hotly debated of late, with many business owners opposed to the idea of the courthouse leaving downtown and favoring an alternative site at the old Fremont School.

The state, however, already has approved the Flynn Road site, since building downtown would require seismic testing and construction delays that officials expect would put the project over budget.

San Benito County Sheriff Curtis Hill has warned residents to keep the debate to a minimum as he thinks the controversy could lead to the state pulling the funds needed for the $32.5 million project.

San Benito County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson disagreed and said Friday this meeting would be the ideal place for residents to voice their concerns.

“It’s time to get it all out on the table,” Thompson said.
