With El NiƱo looming, the Hollister area is bracing for especially harsh rainstorm conditions overnight Monday and for several days ahead, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service issued an alert for the local area due to expectations for heavy storms overnight for the entire Monterey and San Francisco Bay areas, including Hollister.
Rain is expected to potentially hit San Benito County before 4 p.m. Monday. The weather service warned about the possibility for flooding with the overnight storm.
Looking further ahead, the weather service forecast calls for a chance of rain each day through Thursday.
Forecasters have broadly predicted severe El NiƱo conditions in January and February this year.
