Long-time San Juan Bautista resident Helen Maria Ames died of natural causes Monday, July 7, at the age of 96.

Ames died at the Sutter Tracy Community Hospital in Tracy. She had lived in San Juan since 1933. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hollister. She enjoyed gardening and her animals.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. She is survived by children Jonathan Ames and David Ames, both of San Juan Bautista, Sylvia Martella of Hanford, Calif., Forrest Ames and Joseph Ames, both of Napa, Calif., Paul Ames of San Andres, Calif., and Rebecca Ames of Tracy. Ames is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hollister. There will be a private interment ceremony.
