Hollister resident
Hollister resident Helen Marie DeRose died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital after a brief illness. She was 85.

Mrs. DeRose was born in Columbus, Kan. and moved to Hollister from San Jose in 1985. She was a homemaker for more than 65 years and was known as an excellent cook who loved to cook for family gatherings. “Her family was the most important aspect of her life to her. She loved to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives,” her children said.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, a former member of the Italian Catholic Federation and an avid supporter of Sacred Heart Parish bingo. She enjoyed taking cruises and going to Reno.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marilyn and Ron Ayala of Hollister and Mike and Linda DeRose of San Jose; her brothers and sisters, Evelyn Duffy of Hollister, Sarah Davis of San Jose, Angeline Coleman of Sunnyvale, Joe Paura of Chico and Edith Naccarato of Oregon; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Michael DeRose in 1993; her brother, Pete Paura; and her sisters, Rose Naccarato and Mary Paura-Garcia.

The Rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Thursday for a Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos at noon. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Spiritual bouquets are preferred to Immaculate Conception Church.
