Born August 18, 1929 to Julia and Frank Ortiz, Helen was one of 15 children. She met and married her cherished husband, Paul Dean (deceased) in Alameda, CA and spent many happy and adventurous years raising her family in Healy, AK. Helen and Paul later retired to Wetherford, OK. Shortly following Paul’s death, Helen returned to Gilroy to be close to her family, siblings and friends.

Helen is survived by her beloved son, Michael (Cathy Stauffer), grandson Michael Dean, daughter, Paula Johansen (Eric), and step-children Paul Jr., Stephen, Pamela and David; Also her loving brothers and sisters: Prudie (Doris), Fred (Suzie), Felix, Ray (Gloria), Louie, Tillie, Mary (Frank), Carmen and many, many nieces and nephews.

Always young at heart, Helen will be forever remembered for her playful sense of humor, quick wit and deep love of family. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler and a wonderful cook and was always involved in her church and community.

The Price family would like to express a special thank you to Helen’s dear friend and neighbor, Lori, who provided much love, care and friendship in her later years.

Having just celebrated her 80th birthday in good spirits and health with her family on August 18th, Helen passed away suddenly and quickly from an aneurysm on August 23, 2009, at St. Louise Hospital in Gilroy.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the Chapel at St. Mary’s Church, 11 First Street in Gilroy, (408) 847-2652, Wednesday September 2nd, 2009, at 11:00 A.M., followed by a reception at the church.

In her memory donations may be made to St. Louise Hospital Foundation, 9400 No Name Uno, Gilroy, CA 95020.
