Life-long Hollister native and resident Henry Plaza passed away
suddenly at his home May 27, 2005 at the age of 86 years.
Life-long Hollister native and resident Henry Plaza passed away suddenly at his home May 27, 2005 at the age of 86 years.

Upon graduation from San Benito High School on June 10, 1938, Henry went to work for the Golden State Theater Company whose theaters were located in San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Hollister. Later on, his working career included the fresh fruit and vegetable packing industry as a employee of Sanguinetti Packing Company where he traveled from Lodi to Hollister. He was a machine operator for J. J. Marenovich Packing Company in Watsonville and a forklift operator for Bud Antle Co. in Salinas. He also worked in Texas, Yuma and Red Rock, Arizona until he retired in 1981.

Henry was a member of the A.F. of L. – C.I.O. Teamsters Locals No. 78 and 890 of Salinas, Sacred Heart Church, Hollister and Prunedale Lodge No. 388 of the Grange and the Hollister Eagles Drum & Bugle Team – many years ago marching in the local parades.

Henry enjoyed traveling, gardening, sports, and stamp collecting.

Plaza was the brother of Johnny Plaza of Hollister and Alice Elliott of Merced; the brother-in-law of Bill Elliott, Steve Kennedy, Pauline Plaza and the late Gertrude Plaza. He is survived by nieces and nephews Patricia Martin (Terry), Donna Bauer (Randy), Mary Lou Sheldon (Tony), Isabel Paruleski, Elsie Fulcher, Carl Plaza Jr. (Joyce), Larry Plaza (Donna), Mike Elliott and Craig Kennedy (Melissa). He is also survived by several grand nieces and grand nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers and sisters Carol and Lawrence Plaza, Mary Blasquez, Joaquinaamaral, Fidela Callahan and Ricky Kennedy.

Visitation will be held Wednesday June 1, from 10am until noon and from 4pm until 6pm at the chapel of the Grunnagleament Nelson Funeral Home, located at 870 San Benito St. in Hollister.

Family and friends will meet at Sacred Heart Church on Thursday morning at 9:45am to attend a Mass of The Resurrection beginning at 10am. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum. Donations are preferred to St. Benedicts Building Fund c/o the mortuary chapel.
