Hermo “Henry” Cimatu died Friday at his home in Santa Cruz. He was 91.

A native of Bangui Ilcos Norte, in the Philippine Islands, Mr. Cimatu was a member of the Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz and the Mission San Juan Bautista.

Mr. Cimatu worked as a baker for many years in Los Angeles before taking the job as a horticulturist for Nutting Farms in San Juan Bautista.

He was also a member of the Fil-Visayan Association of America.

Mr. Cimatu was also active with the senior citizen community and the Filipino community in Santa Cruz.

He loved playing cards, going to Reno and Lake Tahoe, playing bingo and attending senior dances.

Mr. Cimatu was proceeded in death by his wife Agnes M. Cimatu, who died in 1997.

He is survived by his nephews John Alnas Jr., Joe Alnas, Ernest Alnas, Raymond Alnas and Willie Alnas, all of San Juan Bautista, and Richard Alnas of Salinas; nieces Carmen Martinez Mendota of San Juan Bautista, Naty Cimatu Ramiro of Ontario, Canada, Marcie Aguillon of Santa Cruz and Rosalie Laughton of Prunedale. He is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Family and friends will meet at the Mission San Juan Bautista at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to attend a 10 a.m. mass.

Internment will follow at the San Juan District Cemetery.
