A juvenile led law enforcement on a high-speed chase from Pacheco Pass to the corner of Apricot Lane and Line Street on Thursday morning, culminating in a home invasion and apprehension of a suspect.

The California Highway Patrol was advised around 9:30 a.m. of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Pacheco Pass coming from the Modesto area and into the local jurisdiction.

A CHP plane made visual contact with the silver 2005 Mercedes and directed patrol cars that got behind the suspect. The driver failed to yield to the cruisers and led them on what Officer Chris Armstrong of the CHP termed an “extensive pursuit” through Hollister.

At some point during this pursuit, CHP officers backed off to allow the Hollister Police Department to take over.

A CHP helicopter began to track the movements of the Mercedes, and San Benito County Sheriff’s Office got involved as well.

The pursuit ended at 1095 Line St., where the suspect fled from the vehicle and entered the home. He had no connection with the house, and residents were called out by law enforcement, who then conducted a search of the home, authorities said.

The suspect was located inside and taken into custody. He was then transported to juvenile hall where he awaits charges of being an unlicensed driver, evading law enforcement and multiple other violations yet to be determined, Armstrong said. Authorities also notified his family.

Residents of the house and the street interviewed by a reporter declined to comment.
