Hodges clarifies his prior statement
Dear Editor,
Regarding my Letter to the Editor of Sept. 9, I want to clarify the sentence which said “Board members told me to void 10 of the challenger’s votes.” That was what Marian Cruz, wife of Supervisor Cruz, who lost the election demanded in her lawsuit. Of course, I did not comply.
The board did order me not to certify the election, and when I refused because my staff and I had gone through the necessary process and were satisfied with our findings, the board wanted an addendum attached to it that would have stated there were irregularities in the election. I refused again.
The board did go ahead and add the addendum although there were no proven irregularities.
I am sorry for any confusion I may have caused regarding the 10 votes statement. That error was entirely mine alone.
John R. Hodges, San Benito County Clerk/Auditor/Recorder, Hollister
