The Rancho San Justo Middle School soccer team warms up before practice in late 2010 before the district canceled sports programs.

The Hollister School District Board of Trustees is set to considering accepting about $2,000 from the Rancho San Justo Parent Teacher Organization to reinstate a wrestling team for middle school students.

The consideration comes more than two years after the district, due to financial problems, canceled middle school sports programs.

Trustees at the 5:45 p.m. Tuesday meeting are set to consider using the $2,076 donation from the Rancho PTO for a wrestling team. The team’s season would start after a board approval and end in late March. It would be open to all sixth- through eighth-graders.

While the district weighs the donation, many middle school athletics have shifted over to being provided by the YMCA of San Benito County. Hollister district officials also have used outside donations to keep the music program afloat.
