A 20-year-old Hollister man died in a solo car accident Sunday evening, according to authorities.
Johnnie Marfia Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene where his 1960s era Ford Mustang struck a tree near San Felipe and Wright roads in Hollister, according to authorities.
The accident was reported at 4:56 p.m. and Marfia was deceased when emergency medical personnel arrived, Fire Chief Fred Cheshire said.
The Hollister Police Department is conducting the investigation.
Marfia had been southbound on San Felipe Road while it is unclear what caused the accident, said Interim Police Chief David Westrick.
Westrick pointed out there was a similar fatal accident a few months ago and said this one serves as another reminder.
“Don’t take each day for granted,” he said. “Tell those people you care about you love them every day.”
He said the department’s condolences go out to the family.
San Benito County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Lamonica confirmed his identity and that his family had been notified.
Friends have established a Facebook page in his honor.
