Hollister – A Hollister man was killed in a head-on collision with a teen driver Saturday afternoon in Soquel.

Cameron Kemp, a 26-year-old residing in Hollister, was driving a 1991 Buick Century northbound on Soquel’s San Jose Road when a 19-year-old Watsonville man driving a 2004 Dodge Ram southbound hit him head-on, killing him instantly, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred north of Olive Springs Road at 12:10pm, according to the CHP.

The 19-year-old attempted to stop for a vehicle turning left onto Olive Springs Road, but due to his speed, lost control of the Dodge and slid into the northbound lane, according to the CHP. The Dodge hit Kemp’s Buick, according to the CHP. The 19-year-old and his two passengers were uninjured, according to the CHP.

CHP closed the northbound lane of Soquel San Jose Road for an investigation, according to the CHP.

Alcohol was not involved and all passengers were wearing safety belts, Santa Cruz Area CHP Public Information Officer Grant Boles said.

Kemp’s family could not immediately be reached for comment.
