HOLLISTER

An arraignment hearing has been set for a 21-year-old Hollister man accused of killing a Santa Barbara mother of five in a drunken hit-and-run accident in early March.

Santa Barbara County Prosecutor Joyce Dudley told the Free Lance she could not comment further on the case at this time, but did confirm that the suspect, 21-year-old Hollister resident Fabian Maduena, has been charged on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, transport of marijuana, fleeing the scene of a deadly crash and driving with a suspended license.

Authorities allege Maduena was driving a Mercedes-Benz on Highway 101 and struck another vehicle, a Volkswagon, killing 41-year-old Rosario Silvestere, a Santa Barbara mother of five, she confirmed.

The arraignment for Maduena will be April 22, she said.

Dudley also confirmed that Maduena’s blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit of 0.08 and he had 109 grams of marijuana in the trunk of the car. His defense lawyer has contended Maduena is a medical marijuana patient.

If you have any additional information regarding Maduena, please call the California Highway Patrol at (805) 967-1234.
