Hollister – A Hollister teen is in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his hand after unknown suspects allegedly jumped in front of his car Saturday and fired several shots into the vehicle, according to police.
Police responded to a call from Hazel Hawkins Hospital authorities around 8:30pm Saturday after the 18-year-old man drove himself to the hospital with a bullet lodged in his right hand, said Detective Sgt. James Weathers.
The man told police he was driving on Nash Road when an unknown number of suspects jumped in front of his 1990 Honda Accord and fired at least four gunshots into his car, hitting the windshield, hood and passenger and driver’s side doors, Weathers said.
One of the bullets hit him in the hand, but he was able to flee and drive himself to the hospital, Weathers said.
Police found no bullet casings on Nash Road and no other evidence to corroborate the man’s story. Weathers said police are still trying to pinpoint exactly where the crime took place.
Police don’t know what kind of gun was used in the shooting and have not yet tested the bullet removed from the victim’s hand, Weathers said.
The teen, who has been hesitant to cooperate with investigators, told police he couldn’t identify or describe who shot at him, or even how many people were involved.
“If we don’t get any more information (from the victim) this case will sit cold,” Weathers said. “He said he didn’t know anybody that would want to hurt him.”
However, the man was the victim in a stabbing that occurred in Hollister recently, Weathers said.
Weathers said there is no indication that the shooting was gang-related, and that the victim denies having any gang ties.
“He told officers getting shot hurts more than getting stabbed,” he said.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Hollister Police Department at (831) 636-4330.
