Jordan Belton scored 14 points, Cooper Sepulveda and Eric Elayda each added 12, and the San Benito Haybalers defeated host North Salinas 71-54 on Friday night in Tri-County Athletic League play.

It is San Benito’s second straight win and 13th on the season, as the Bales improve to 5-3 in the TCAL and 13-7 overall.

“Offensively, we played well,” San Benito head coach Tracy Carpenter said. “We moved the ball around, found the open man and made a lot of 3-pointers.”

The Balers, who held leads of 18-12 after one quarter and 33-21 at halftime, deposited 10 3-pointers in the game, including four each from Sepulveda and Elayda.

Sepulveda’s stat line also included four assists and two steals, while the forward shot 4 of 6 from behind the arc.

Both Belton and Josh Brooks each chimed in with one 3-pointer as well. Evan Olbring added 11 points for San Benito and Devin Wingo had seven.

Victor Moran led the Vikings with 14 points and Nick Nunez deposited 10. North Salinas falls to 0-9 in the TCAL.

“Now the tough stretch starts,” Carpenter said. “We’re gonna find out who we are.”

The Balers will play their last four remaining games against Gilroy, Palma, Alisal and Salinas, with the visiting Mustangs kicking off the stretch on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Previously on Jan. 15, Gilroy defeated San Benito by a 64-53 margin.

“Hopefully, we’ve made enough improvements to have a chance in that one,” Carpenter said.
