Kelsey Robledo scored 19 points and the Anzar Hawks defeated host Marina 33-22 in Coastal Athletic League action on Friday.

The victory improves Anzar to 4-2 in the CAL and 6-10 overall.

The game was played at the Salinas Boys and Girls Club, which has a large, quiet gymnasium, Anzar head coach Mike Bonomi said; so quiet that it may have affected the Hawks’ play early on.

“We played down a little bit to our opponent’s level — no sense of urgency,” Bonomi said.

After Anzar was tied with Marina 2-2 after one quarter, Bonomi told his team “to wake up,” and the team responded by taking a 15-8 lead to the break.

Robledo deposited the bulk of her 19 points in the second and fourth quarters, Bonomi said, when the Hawks outscored Marina by a 25-12 margin.

“She blew up,” Bonomi said of Robledo, who also had seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks on Friday. She committed just one turnover.

Anzar will visit Georgiana Bruce Kirby on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Despite some four games remaining in the season, this will be the first matchup between the two teams after their previous matchup on Jan. 15 was postponed.
