MONTEREY
Kelsey Robledo scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for yet another double-double performance, and the Anzar Hawks defeated host York 33-22 behind a strong second half on Tuesday night in Monterey.
Trailing the Falcons by an 8-5 margin at halftime, the Hawks outscored York in the third and fourth quarters 28-14.
“We had a lot of shots that were right there that would fall out,” Anzar head coach Mike Bonomi said of the first half. “In the second half, we were just getting more of those shots to go down.”
York also began pressing in the second half, and the Hawks broke the full-court defense nearly every time.
“And we got some nice looks off that,” Bonomi said. “We pressed them and that worked pretty well, too.”
Anzar, which was tied with York at 16-all entering the final period, pulled away late in the game after the Falcons got into foul trouble. The Hawks made seven free throws in the fourth quarter alone, while Robledo and teammate Melissa Weckerle were 12 of 15 from the charity stripe in the game.
Weckerle finished with seven points.
Anzar, which improves to 7-2 in the Coastal Athletic League and 9-10 overall, has completed its regular season slate, although Bonomi is looking to schedule one last league game against Anchorpoint Christian for Friday.
Otherwise, the Hawks will await the Division V seedings, which are scheduled to be announced on Sunday.
