Kelsey Robledo had a double-double performance with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and the Anzar Hawks won their second straight game when they defeated host Georgiana Bruce Kirby 29-21 at Branciforte Middle School in Santa Cruz on Tuesday night.

Robledo, who had 19 points during Anzar’s previous victory against Marina, had seven steals and a pair of assists to go along with her double-double.

“A monster game, again,” Hawks head coach Mike Bonomi said.

Robledo’s performance nearly outshined all of Kirby, which was held to just five points through the first three quarters on Tuesday. The Santa Cruz prepatory school was held scoreless in the second quarter, and trailed the Hawks 5-4 after one quarter, 7-4 at halftime and 15-5 through three quarters.

“Then they finally beat our press,” Bonomi said.

Both teams exploded for a combined 30 points in the final stanza, although Anzar managed to protect its double-digit cushion late in the game.

Maddie Pasquini made two easy lay-ins to supply Kirby with some momentum in the final period, which saw Kirby outscore Anzar 16-14.

But the Hawks’ three-quarter lead was enough for an eight-point victory.

“They had a hard time with our 1-3-1 defense,” Bonomi said.

Melissa Weckerle added six points for Anzar, which is now 5-2 in the Coastal Athletic League and 7-10 overall.

The Hawks will play Kirby again on Thursday in San Juan Bautista. Anzar was originally scheduled to square off against Anchorpoint Christian on Thursday, although the Warriors were forced to postpone the matchup due to a lack of players.

The Hawks will celebrate Senior Night on Thursday as well. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
