A cable TV reality series has landed in San Benito County to help address a lagging local lodging industry.
The Travel Channel’s “Hotel Impossible” is filming this week at an undisclosed hotel in San Benito County, said Juli Vieira, president of the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce.
Vieira confirmed the filming but could not disclose the precise location.
“They are filming this week in San Benito County,” Vieira told the Free Lance, adding how the crew started Monday.
That along with several other filming projects are exciting news for the chamber of commerce, which has encouraged such endeavors locally under Vieira. The local chamber is working to revitalize a film commission that once advised the organization’s leadership on ways to attract more TV and movie work in San Benito County.
What’s the draw for this county, home to sites used in the classic Alfred Hitchcock film “Vertigo”, in particular? For Vieira, the climate and picturesque settings don’t hurt.
“And there’s a lot of open area,” she said.
Aside from the reality show, there has been recent filming for an independent movie at Bolado Park and a separate, short-film documentary as well, Vieira said.
Vieira said she gets weekly calls from people in the film or TV industries and directs them to the chamber’s website,discoversanbenitocounty.com.
