Rebecca Doty and Krystal Lomanto retained their positions on the North County Joint Union School District Board of Trustees Tuesday.
After a full day of voting, Lomanto ran away with 38.5 percent of the vote (464 total) and Doty had 25.8 percent (311 votes). Each member serves a four-year term.
“I’m pretty excited,” Lomanto said. “I’m looking forward to serving in the district. Because I’m a graduate of Spring Grove, I felt I had a good pool of knowledge to bring to the board.”
Lomanto said she was confident going into Tuesday because of the endorsement she received from the district’s teachers. She has two children in the district.
Challengers Curtis Nelson and Jason Ferguson received 16.7 and 18.8 percent of the vote, respectively. A total of 1,203 people voted in the race.
Lomanto was appointed to the board two years ago after the position was left vacant. She said she saw the appointment as a good opportunity to see what serving on the board was like before she ran on her own.
The mother of two Spring Grove School students said she felt confident going into the campaign because she was endorsed by the teachers. Lomanto is a program manager for new teachers at San Benito High School.
Improvements Lomanto said she would like to make in the district include working on a strategic plan and adopting after-school and Gifted and Talented Education programs.
Doty could not be reached for comment by press time.
Spring Grove School is the only school in the district.
