Boys’ Basketball
Anzar 66, King City 50
The Anzar Hawks boys’ basketball team remained a half-game ahead
of Pacific Grove in the Mission Trail Athletic League thanks to its
66-50 win over King City on Saturday at home. Leading the way for
the Hawks was Scott Benson, who had 24 points in the winning
effort. In addition to Benson, Erik Olson also had a solid outing
and scored 19. The Hawks next game will take place on Monday at
home against Carmel. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Girls Basketball
King City 56, Anzar 22
While the Hawks boys’ varsity team picked up a big home win over
King City on Saturday, the Hawks girls’ squad didn’t fare as well
in their showdown with the first-place Mustangs. The Anzar girls
lost by a 56-22 margin to slip to 1-4 in the MTAL and 3-10 overall.
Despite the loss, Jessica Staley was a one-player scoring machine
as she accounted for 14 of the Hawks’ 22 points.
