Isabel Cadei, our loving wife, proud mother and grandmother died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 16.
She was a committed member of her church and community. She worked tirelessly in support of services for the developmentally disabled. Isabel was born and raised in Hollister. She married in 1942 and relocated to Gilroy with her husband Raymond Cadei at the end of World War II.
She is survived by her loving husband Raymond P.Cadei of Gilroy; her children Raymond M. Cadei and his wife Toni Moore of Sacramento, Diane Cadei of Salinas, Lydia Cadei of Gilroy, Cecilia Cadei Mitchell and her husband Steven Mitchell of Eagle, Idaho and Kay Cadei Newby and her husband J. Clark Newby of Redwood City; grandchildren Emily Cadei of Washington D.C., Carolyn Cadei of Pontlevoy, France, Mathew Mitchell of Eagle, Idaho, Grace and Sam Newby both of Redwood City; sister Marsha Jolley of San Jose and numerous nieces, nephews and many relatives in Spain.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Isadora and Caetano Garcia and her sister Mary Hall.
Isabel was a founding member and the first president of the Association for the Developmentally Disabled. She was instrumental in bringing many programs for the disabled to Gilroy including the recently opened Villa Esperanza apartment complex, which is specially designed to accommodate the developmentally disabled. She was an active member of Women in Touch, St. Mary’s Church, Italian Catholic Federation and the Catholic Ladies Aide Society. She and Ray worked at the Gilroy Garlic Festival for 23 years.
She volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Bank and the Special Olympics. Visitation will begin Sunday, November 21 at noon at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. A vigil will begin at 4pm. Funeral Services will begin Monday, November 22 at 9:30am at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Mary’s Church for Mass at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy. Family would appreciate donations to HOPE Rehabilitation Services – Gilroy Facility, 8855 Murray Avenue, Gilroy in her memory.
