Isabel Olmos was born in Tlachichila, Zacatecas and came to Gilroy in 1952 after marrying Hipolito Olmos. She was all of 4 ft. 4 inches tall but to her family she was a Giant. She was a farm worker until she was hired at our local cannery. She always remembered how she had to stand on a “prune box” in order to reach the conveyor belts at the Felice and Perelli Cannery, later known as the Gilroy Cannery. She later went on to work and retire from Joseph Gubser Garlic Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hipolito Olmos of 41 years of marriage, her sister Modesta Gonzalez, her brother Antonio Gomez and her parents Epifanio and Trinidad Gomez, and her great-grandson, Johnny Gabriel Troncoso Olmos.

She is survived by her beloved son Juan Olmos, Sr. and his wife Socorro, grandchildren Juan Jr. (Tina), Socorro (Pedro), Maria Elena, Catalina, Christina, Hipolito (Veronica), Gloria, Angelica, Adriana, and David, as well as 16 great-grandchildren, her siblings Santiago Gomez (Marina), Teresa Munoz (Baudelio), Godofredo Gomez (Emma), and Maria de Los Angeles Gomez (Fabian); and her in-laws Ramon Gonzalez and Marina Olmos.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 25, 2010, beginning at 1:00 P.M. followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Friday, March 26, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery following the service on Friday.
