Polk died at his Salinas home after a lengthy battle with
illness on Jan. 19. He was 90 years old.
James “Charlie” Polk died at his Salinas home after a lengthy battle with illness on Jan. 19. He was 90 years old.

Born in Madison County, Ark., Mr. Polk was a resident of Tres Pinos and he owned and operated a mattress and upholstery shop in Hollister from 1943 until moving to Salinas in 1970.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elsie Polk of Family Home; daughter Charlotte Crowl of Scurry, Texas; son Keith (Betty) Polk of Salinas; brother Jack Polk of Watsonville; six grandchildren Debbie Van Schuyver, Steve Polk, Gary Kirkpatrick, Melody Foster, Shanon Kirkpatrick, and Annette Donaldson; 13 great-grand children; and nephew Artie Meek of Soquel.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 2pm at Salinas Valley Community Church. Cremation is under the direction of the Healey Crematory. Inurnment of his ashes will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hollister.
