Jane Dolores Morgan Blankenship

Born July 18, 1922, Arcata, CA

Died September 20, 2011, Arcata, CA

Janie was born in Arcata to Elma Pauline Box and William Nicholas Morgan. Both of her parents were also natives of Arcata. She was raised in Arcata by her paternal aunt and uncle, Lucretia and Benjamin Sorenson. She recounted visits as a teenager to the bay area to see her parents and spend time with her brother and maternal relatives in Oakland and San Francisco. She also spent happy times there later with her husband, and daughters.

Jane graduated from Arcata High School, and Humboldt State University with a Masters in Theatre Arts. She also attended UC Berkeley, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She held a teaching credential and taught all over California, taking time off to raise her children. She worked in primary and secondary grades during her career, spanning over 30 years, her favorite assignments being the first through third grades.

Jane and her husband retired from teaching in the early 1980’s. They returned to Arcata, after residing for many years in the central coast area of California. She was a voracious reader, and enjoyed traveling, music, especially jazz, singing, dancing and modern art. Also the sharing of good food, and spirits with friends and family.

She was a Methodist, and her faith was important to her throughout her life.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Carl, of over 50 years, daughter Karla, and by her brother William Nicholas Morgan. Pippa Pensotti, her eldest daughter survives her, as does her youngest daughter Marcie Jaime (Ralph) of Hollister, grandchildren, Sarah Jaime of Santa Cruz, and Ryan Jaime of Hollister, and son-in-law George Kennedy of Arcata. Numerous nieces and nephews survive her as well.

She will be missed by all.

A rising sun

A passing cloud

Wind blown scents

Now walking on

Passing thru

Now gathering thoughts

On entering you
