Jennie Costa, 96, died peacefully on December 8, 2008 in San Jose, CA. Jennie lived the majority of her life in Morgan Hill, CA where she was a homemaker and active member of the community. She attended San Martin Elementary School, Live Oak High School and Heald Business College. Jennie was married for 54 years to Andrew Costa who preceded her in death, as did her brother, Tony Bonino. She is the mother of Roger Costa of Cupertino and Janet Hebert (Paul) of San Jose, and the grandmother of Jill Costa, Todd Costa, Katie Gutierrez, and Jeff Gutierrez. Jennie Margaret Bonino was born on November 23, 1912 in Bingham, Utah. The Bonino family then soon moved to San Martin, California and there began a long history of farming which continues through the present. Jennie married Andrew Costa from another local farming family in 1940. Andy and Jennie’s family business was the growing and processing of prunes, which they did for almost 40 years. As a wife, mother and active community volunteer, Jennie distinguished herself through years of dedicated service in the PTA, the Coyote and Pomona Granges, the Order of Eastern Star, the Morgan Hill Flower Lover’s Club, the Others Club of San Martin, and a charter member of Women in Touch South County. Jennie was proud of her family and happiest when they were all gathered together for family events at her home. Her sweet disposition and ever-ready smile would brighten a room right up to the end of her long, exemplary life. Visitation will be on Monday, December 15, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey Street in Morgan Hill. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M., also at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill.
