Hawks defeat Greenfield 7-0
Anzar returned to its winning ways Tuesday, getting a hat trick from Leah Jimenez and two goals from Olivia Austin in a 7-0 win over Greenfield.

“This was a huge weight off everyone’s chest,” coach Deric McLean said. “We spent two games under-performing, forcing plays that weren’t there and trying to do too much as individuals.”

The Hawks (8-5, 8-3 Mission Trail Athletic League) had a team meeting before the game and it appeared to work as the offense clicked, with 22 shots in each half in the rout.

Jimenez’s three goals boosted her season total to 15, tying her for second in the league in scoring.

Mackenzie Quaid and Alex Brown also notched goals while freshman Chelsea Woods, playing her first varsity game since moving up from JV to fill in for injured senior Sara Chatley, picked up an assist for her first varsity point.

McLean also credited Austin with provided some much-needed leadership.

“I demanded that she step up and lead by example, her most important task being to remind everyone around her just how good they are,” McLeans said. “She obviously took this to heart, playing with poise and tenacity.”
