Joan Vargas (born Joan Shirley Woida) beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on June 20th after a year and a half long battle against ovarian cancer. Joan was a kind person who spent every day of her life caring about other people while doing whatever she could to help them though their daily struggles. Throughout her life she was very active in fund raising for various charitable organizations. Every day she spent her time trying to make this world a better place for everyone and everything living in it. She was a pillar of spiritual strength and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was know as “Mamma Joan” by the friends of her children and was a consummate nurturer to both kids and adults alike. She had a passion for horses and country music, deriving equal pleasure from both. She was a talented writer with an amazing creative spirit that brought laughter and joy to the lives of everyone who came into contact with her.

Joan is survived by her mother Ruby and her 5 siblings; Gene, Larry, Judy, Tim and Jim. She is also survived by her husband Antonio, her children; Jay, Chris and Adrienne, and her grandchildren Kyle, Tyler and Shayne. She will be deeply missed by all. Joan requested no services, but the family will be holding an open house at her home on Saturday, June 30th 2007.
