Joe Gomez Jr.
Joe Gomez Jr. passed away suddenly at his residence from natural causes May 2l at the age of 57.
A native of Hanford, in Kings County, Mr. Gomez has resided in San Benito County since 1960. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, an avid 49-er fan and loved working in his yard, when he was able to do so, and working on race cars. He was currently rebuilding a 1969 Nova into a race car. He was a diesel mechanic for more than 35 years and worked for Trans Valley Transport in Gilroy.
He is survived by his son, Joe Gomez III, and Michelle Espinoza both of Hollister; his grandchildren, John Espinoza and Kathryn Espinoza of Sacramento; brothers and sisters, Mark Gomez and wife Mary of Fresno, Anna Mae Zamora and husband John of Hollister, J. C. McAllister of Sacramento, Doug McAllister of Oregon, Marie Thurman of Richmond, Va., Janie Wheeler of Little Rock, Ark.; aunts, Lola Zamora of Lemoore, Calif. and Lona Canada of Oklahoma. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances, in 1971, his father, Joe Gomez, in 1975 and brother James McAllister in 1997.
As per Mr. Gomez’s wishes, arrangements have been made for private cremation at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory with interment of his cremains at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Fresno.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Friday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at the Glad Tidings Church, 499 Third St., San Juan Bautista
