My dog Joey, named after Joe Montana of course, is my constant companion and fellow 49er fan. He always listens to me if I have complaints about how the team is doing and celebrates with me when they are doing well. He has his very own 49er jersey and wears it proudly on game days. Joey was found wandering alone in rural Hollister about a year and a half ago. Even though we don’t know his true heritage, he is most likely a Maltese mix.
His brother Buddy, also a 49er fan, keeps both of us company on our walks. Buddy was a shelter dog who chose me when I visited the shelter in Hollister when it first opened five years ago.
Both of my boys are loving companions, and I don’t know what I’d do without them. They keep me laughing and sane. When we walk, they really like to visit with other people – children are their favorites – and they love the petting and attention they get.
Sometimes these angels truly do find us. Our little dog LadyGirl showed up in front of our house about 3 1/2 years ago, starving and very sick. We don’t know where she came from. We asked all around and posted notices, but didn’t get a response, so she became our littlest dog. She’s also the most loyal and the best little watchdog anyone could want. I think she really appreciated our taking care of her and nursing her back to health.
Are they spoiled? You bet! Could I ever stop spoiling them? Never! Dogs truly are angels sent from Heaven for us to love.
