John Carmen Caparusso passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home, surrounded by family. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-two years, Birgit; his sons, Anthony and John, and daughter-in-law, Milly; his grandchildren, Antonio and Sophia; and his nieces and nephews. We miss him sorely.
Born in Utica, New York, John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both Atlantic and Pacific theaters, then attended Syracuse on the G.I. Bill. He lived in California for nearly sixty years, including nearly fifty in Gilroy. He served for many years as the financial controller of an agricultural cooperative. He loved spending time with family, raising various pet dogs, fishing on the Antioch River, and spending time at the family’s home in Lake Tahoe.
A private service will be held at Veteran’s Cemetary in San Bruno on Friday, January 30. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in his memory to Odyssey Hospice or a charity of your choice.
