John L. Starbody died Thursday, Oct. 16 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 82.

He was born in Pennsylvania and worked for Teledyne McCormick Selph as a cost accountant for many years and served his country faithfully for 21 years in the Navy as a Lt. Commander during WWII and Korea.

He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Church, SIRS, VFW Post 9242 and Bolado Golf Course Men’s Club.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Starbody of Hollister, who he married in 1946 in Decatur, Ill.; daughter Elizabeth Rodriguez of Hollister; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Jennifer Starbody of Campbell; sisters and brother Linda Howe of North Carolina, Doris Carr and Eugene Starbody, both of Decatur; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and her husband Ruth and John Bentley of Menlo Park; and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Bob Starbody, and sister Rosemary Snoke.

The Rosary will be Sunday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.

Friends may gather at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m. and then proceed to Sacred Heart Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Interment and military rites will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery where VFW Post 9242 will perform rites.

A reception will follow the services at the family home after the funeral.

Donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church in care of the funeral home.
