John Torres passed away suddenly at his residence in Sparks, Nevada, on Nov. 12th at the age of 68 years. He was a native of Mountainair, New Mexico and had resided in San Benito County for 50 years before moving to Sparks two years ago.

As a mechanic, John had a strong interest in motorcycles and cars. He and his wife Rose took motorcycle trips to see family in New Mexico, traveled to The Four Corners, to Sturgis, to Laughlin, and many other parts of the U.S.

He loved the time spent with Rose’s family as well as the camping experiences on the motorcycle trips. His children and their activities also were a large part of John’s life.

Besides his spouse Rose Torres, John is survived by his children; John Paul Torres of Modesto, James Torres of Hollister, and Jerry Torres of Visalia, five grandchildren, sisters; Lydia and Regina Agboyani and Pilar Fernandez of San Jose, Isabel Gaboni of San Juan Bautista, and Della Ruiz of San Martin, brothers; Abraham Torres of Hollister, Manuel and “Junior” Guadalupe Torres of New Mexico, and Joe Torres of San Jose, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother and sister, Ignacio and Elma Torres.

Visitation will be Sunday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister. The Rosary will be held at 3:00 pm. Family and friends will leave the Mortuary Monday morning at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am funeral mass to be held at The Old Mission San Juan Bautista, 3rd & Mariposa Streets at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at San Juan District Cemetary.
