A long time Hollister resident passed away on November 10, 2006. Beloved husband for 37 years of Carmen Flores and loving father to Jose Sergio Flores, Angie Cruz, and Erika Rodriguez,adoring grandfather to Daniel, Damian, Jennifer, Adrian, Vanessa, Jasmine, and Aiden, who knew him as “Ito”, second child of Manuel and Angela Flores and brother to Marisela, Antonia, and Carlota Flores.

Jose was born in Jalisco, Mexico on March 4, 1941. He worked as a taxi and bus driver in Mexico City until he came to Hollister in 1965. A year later he met Carmen and they were married on November 15, 1969. He has worked for the Tri-Valley Growers Cannery and Gilroy Foods for the past 40 years. He also worked in the cherry orchards for Christopher Ranch in the summer for 26 years.

He was a natural farmer and loved caring for his many different fruit trees, vegetables, and plants. Jose was a family man and his true passion in life was spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, November 17th at 7:00 pm at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Visitation will begin on Friday at l2 Noon. Family and friends will leave the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9:30 am to proceed to St. Benedict’s Church, 1200 Fairview Rd., Hollister, for a funeral mass which begins at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum.
