Dec. 24, in Salinas at the age of 74.

Former Hollister resident Joseph M. Sardinha died Wednesday, Dec. 24, in Salinas at the age of 74.

Sardinha was born in Maui, Hawaii, and moved to Hollister from Sunnyvale six years ago. Prior to retirement, he worked for Westinghouse as a machinist for many years. He was a semi-professional baseball player as a pitcher and was in the International Association of Machinists Union for 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lucille Sardinha who died in April.

Sardinha is survived by his children and their spouses Brian and Lisa Sardinha of Los Banos, Randy Sardinha of Hayward, Carolyn and Richard Gargiulo of Hollister, Alan Sardinha of Manteca, Teresa Sardinha of Michigan, Conrad Sardinha of San Jose, Genevieve Sardinha of Oroville and Stanley Sardinha of Muskegan, Mich. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was one of nine children with three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Internment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery. A reception will follow at the home of Carolyn and Richard Gargiulo, 3235 San Juan Hollister Road.
