at the Veteran’s Hospital in Palo Alto.
Joseph P. Talbot died Friday, Oct. 29 afternoon at the age of 82 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Palo Alto.

Born in Berkeley, he attended grammar schools in San Luis Obispo and graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1939. He attended San Jose State College with graduated a AB degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy commissioned as an Ensign in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Lieutenant Junior Grade.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hollister and St. Joseph’s Church in Capitola. He was also the past secretary and president of the Hollister Rotary Club and a member of the Hollister Elk’s Lodge.

Joe was an avid sports fan of all sports to including the San Francisco 49’ers , San Francisco Giant’s baseball fan and Cal. Berkeley football. He was a founding member of the Ridgemark Tennis Club.

He also was a volunteer at the Rehab Center at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz and volunteer at the Capitola Historical Museum.

In 1946 to 1949, he worked in San Francisco in the Stock and Bond business. From 1949 to 1963 he was a self employed Real Estate Broker and Insurance Agent at the family owned E.E. Holbrook and Co. 1960 to 1963. Joe was elected City Clerk of Hollister and from 1963 to 1974 he served as the City Manager of Hollister. From 1974 to 1980 he was the director of purchasing and personnel for Nical Inc. (Leatherback Industries) in Hollister. From 1980 to 1982 he was a president assistant at Wapples Pharmacies, and from 1982 to 1985 he was a Real Estate Broker at Coldwell Banker in Hollister. From 1985 to 1988 he was a area sales manager for Roofing Products, Inc. In 1988 Joe semi-retired and built a home in Capitola. 

Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara H. Talbot, of Capitola, whom he married in 1944, and his children, Mark Talbot, and wife Kim of South Pasadena, Jim Talbot and wife Marisa of Colorado Springs, Bert Talbot of Hollister, John “Charlie Brown” Talbot and wife Karen of Ripon, Mary Ann Hindman and husband Gregg of Hollister and Liz Talbot and husband John Freiermuth of Hollister; 13 grandchildren, Garrett, Matthew, Monica, Jonathan, Stephen, Katherine, Erin, Colleen, Bailey, Joel and Megan Talbot, Samantha and Alexandra Hindman; one great-grandson, Gabriel Talbot.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday morning at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with funeral arrangements and cremation under the direction of Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory in Hollister. Arrangements also have been made for burial at sea off the Coast of Monterey County.

Contributions are preferred to Sacred Heart School Foundation or the Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
