A judge Thursday ruled the man accused in the 2007 killing of a 20-year-old Hollister woman is mentally competent to stand trial, set to start Monday morning.
A judge considered a doctor’s report and ruled that Hollister’s Travis Hoffmeister, 27, is ready for trial.
His trial proceedings are scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the San Benito County Courthouse.
Hoffmeister is accused in the June 2007 homicide of Christella Macias, whose body turned up on the morning of June 22, 2007 on the west end of C Street – a residential neighborhood – with a bag over her head and no other clothing other than a shirt.
Hollister police arrested Hoffmeister in March 2008 after connecting him to the crime through DNA evidence.
If he had been found incompetent, Hoffmeister would have gone to a mental hospital and placed on a program to improve his mental competency for trial.
