Long-time Hollister resident
Long-time Hollister resident Julia Pena Zepeda died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was 76.

Mrs. Zepeda was born in Hawthorne and attended school in Gilroy before coming to Hollister in 1940. She was a homemaker all her adult life and had a strong interest in her family, seeing that holiday get-togethers were at her home.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the church’s Guadalupana Society, and a founding member and the first secretary of the Beneficial Society of United Mexicans, a group in which she was very active. She also enjoyed watching soap operas.

She is survived by her husband of more than 52 years, Pedro L. Zepeda of Hollister; her sisters, Ruth Duarte of Hollister and Beatrice Corral of Los Angeles; her brother, Antonio Luna of Hollister; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Abel Zepeda, in 1995; her sister, Jennie Luna; her brother, Joe Perez; and her great-granddaughter, Morgyn Renae Zepeda.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church.

Family and friends will leave the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass at the church. Interment will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.
