After a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer, Julie Scowden, of McMinnville, Oregon died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family and her beloved Yorkies. Julie was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. In 1962, she married Tom Enberg, and together they had two children. They divorced in 1973, but remained good friends through-out her life. In Oct. of 1973, Julie married Roland Scowden, or “Scowie” as she affectionately called him. Together they raised her children along with his at their home in Gilroy. During her lifetime, Julie was active in many clubs, including various bowling leagues, the San Martin Horseman’s Association, Los Viajeros Horseman’s Club, and the Gilroy Elks Lodge where her husband was Exalted Ruler and she was First Lady during the early 90’s. After retirement, they traveled extensively in their RV, visiting nearly every state in the continental U.S. making many friends along the way. In 1997, they made Sedona, AZ their home and she took up golfing with a passion. Julie became involved in the Verde Santa Fe Ladies Golf Association in Cottonwood, AZ and forged many friendships there. In 2005, they moved to Oregon, where she became an active member of the Michelbook Country Club as captain of the Ladies 9-Holers Club and member of the Ladies 18-Holers Club, as well as the OSWGA. Julie lived life to the fullest and wouldn’t let a cancer diagnosis change that. She kept a positive outlook through it all and remarkably often played a round of golf the day after a chemo session. She cherished all of her grandchildren and will certainly be remembered as a fun-loving grandma, with a penchant for pedicures and all things “girly”, and as one heck of a card player. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Roland Scowden; brother Donald Echeverria, of San Francisco; son Don Enberg (Laura)of San Francisco; daughter Dina Enberg of San Francisco; son Scott Scowden (Debra) of Sherwood, OR; daughter Shannon Orlando (Jeff) of Sherwood, OR; grandsons Christopher Enberg of Rocklin, CA, Philip and Aidan Orlando of Sherwood, OR; grand-daughters Lauren Orlando, Emily and Danielle Scowden of Sherwood, OR and Kiarra Enberg of San Francisco. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on March 11, 2008 at 12 p.m. at the Michelbook Country Club, McMinnville, OR.
