The Hollister Junior League All-Stars and the Hollister National 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars both lost their consolation semifinal match-ups Tuesday night, and both have been eliminated from the Section 5 All-Star Tournament as a result.

At Willow Glen High in San Jose, the Junior League All-Stars struggled in the fourth inning when rival Almaden plated five unearned runs. Hollister mounted a small comeback in the seventh, but couldn’t score the tying run, and lost 5-4.

“We couldn’t play catch,” manager Todd Freitas said. “If we play catch, we win that game.”

Last year, Almaden won the Section 5 tournament, and eliminated Hollister in the championship final.

The Hollister National 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars, meanwhile, lost 12-7 to Saratoga Tuesday night at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz.

“I’m proud of the kids,” manager Dave Marquez said. “They never gave up.”
