Long-time county resident
Karl Johnson died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto. He was 87.
Mr. Johnson was born in Rudy, Ark. and had lived in San Benito County since 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He was retured from the City of Hollister as a street maintenance worker and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 in Hollister.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara; his children and their spouses, Karl and Esther Johnson of Hollister, Crigler and Jo Johnson of Spring City, Tenn., Michael and Ginger Johnson of Avondale, Ariz. and Douglas Johnson of Mission Viejo; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Scott Johnson, in July 2002.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Grace Bible Church, the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
