Kathryn Mackey-Marentis died June 8, 2004 surrounded by her family and friends after a short illness.
Born in Quanset Point, Rhode Island on Dec. 20, 1956, she was the loving wife of 14 years to Todd Marentis. They were together for over 22 years. In 1980, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Foods and Nutrition from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. After completing a dietetic internship at Porterville Developmental Center in 1982, she became a registered dietician. She worked at Napa State Hospital from 1983 to 1994. Initially she began her career as a Clinical Dietician and was then promoted to Assistant Director of Dietetics. From 1994 to this year, she worked for the Department of Education as a Nutrition Education Specialist. Kathy’s sense of humor was beyond compare. She loved all animals and had a compassion for their welfare. Holidays were always festive and a special time for her. Getting together with family and friends meant everything to her. She will be missed by all lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband; parents, Dorothy and Stanislaw Mackey; sisters, Janice Mackey, Mary Lancaster and husband Darrel, Carol Crutchfield and husband Ed; sisters-in-law Celeste Marentis and Maurene Schwartzer and her husband Don; brother-in-law Stephen Marentis; nieces and nephews, Katrina Allen, Stephanie Marentis, Daniel Lima, Lauren and Mathew Schwartzer; her two cats Otis and Bernie; and numerous aunts, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, June 13 at the George L. Klump Chapel of Flowers at 2691 Riverside Boulevard, Sacramento, Calif. An informal gathering will be held following the Memorial Services to celebrate her life at their home. Her wishes for donations are to UC Davis Transplant Research Fund, 2315 Stockton Boulevard, House Staff Facility 1018, Sacramento, Calif. 95817 and PETA, 501 Front Street, Norfolk, Va. 23510.
