The 14th annual Kids Fishing Day will be held Saturday, May 17 at San Luis Creek State Recreation Area’s South Beach on the O’Neill Forebay.

Anglers age 15 and younger accompanied by an adult may register beginning at 8 a.m. Weigh-ins will be at noon with prizes for the largest catches.

Each participant will receive a tackle box, bait, lunch and other items including a small trophy cup, and will also have their pictures taken.

Volunteers will help those learning to handle fishing tackle, but participants must be able to manage their rods and reels.

There will be a fishing simulator, nature walks and special targets for casting practice. Participants may also try “gyotaku,” the Japanese art of fish printing.

The event is sponsored by the California Department of Water Resources and hosted by State Parks staff and volunteers. It is financed by the Four Rivers Natural History Association and commemorates May as Water Awareness Month.

Directions: From Highway 152 east of Pacheco Pass, take the San Luis Creek turnoff at the O’Neill Forebay and follow the signs.
