L. Louise Kerr died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in Salinas. She was 79.

Mrs. Kerr was born in McKeesport, Pa. She graduated from McKeesport High School at the age of 16, then attended business college for two years. While a cheerleader in high school she met her husband-to-be, a football player; they were married after World War II and were together 55 years.

The couple came to Hollister in 1984, one of 23 moves they made because of his occupation, which sparked an interest to travel, meet new people and see new places. A homemaker all her adult life, Mrs. Kerr was also a facilitator and coordinator for many group activities such as water color and oil painting classes and ceramic crafts. She also worked as a model, in retail sales, as a switchboard operator, classroom assistant and secretary for a lawyer referral service and as operations officer for Bank of America in Saratoga.

She was a member of the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary, Ridgemark Golf & Country Club and its women’s 18-hole and 9-hole golf clubs, and the August Anniversary Club.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Don Kerr of Hollister; her daughters, Beverly Kerr of Hollister and Janet Twinem of Laguna Niguel; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Burt Boehmer.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. The Rev. David Rodriguez of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Arrangements for cremation have been made with Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory with private inurnment to follow.

Memorials are preferred to the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation or Guide Dogs for the Blind.
