Hollister resident Larry T. James died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 4 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 61.

He was born in Oakland, Calif., and moved to San Benito County nine years ago.

He attended the Monterey Institute of Language before entering the Army during the Korean War. He was an interpreter on the Pueblo ship incident. During his service time and after discharge, he attended the University of Maryland and received his bachelor’s degree in 1971. He graduated in 1974 with a master’s degree from the Golden Gate University.

He was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

He worked at the account manager for the San Jose Water Company.

He is survived by his wife Barbara U. James of Hollister; sons and their spouses Thomas William and Angie James of East Lansing, Mich., and Michael Laurence and Danica James of El Cajon, Calif.; step-son and his wife David Roy and Janet Steele Jr.; mother Geraldine James; and four grandchildren.

As per Larry’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory.
