The Gavilan baseball team lost to visiting Ohlone College on Thursday, 12-4. Once again, the Rams kept the game close until late when errors opened the door for Ohlone.

After five innings, the Rams (4-23, 4-16 in conference) were within striking distance at 6-4, but Ohlone scored three runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.

The Rams tied the score at 1-1 in the first inning with a leadoff home run by B.J. Collom.

In the third inning, Rocco Castanza had a single to score Collom, who had walked.

The Rams had a good chance to score in the second but hit into a double play on what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt.

Todd Gimenez pitched seven innings. He gave up eight runs, but only four of them were earned.

“We haven’t folded up shot yet,” said coach Neal Andrade. “We’re taking baby steps to build our program back to where we want it to be. Right now, we need to work on the fundamentals and the little things to win ball games.”

The Gavilan Rams have four more games left in their season

“We’re going to try to ruin some of the other teams’ playoff chances,” Andrade said

Note: After the Rams take on San Mateo on Saturday at noon, free hamburgers and hot dogs will be given out to anyone in high school who plays baseball.

Tours of the facilities will also be offered.
