As New Year Dawns, It’s Clear We’re Headed in Right Direction

Editor,

I feel our county and city are heading for a prosperous, good year.

The city, finally, after so many failures, seems like it has begun to take the right steps to bring the sewer problem up to date. I feel this will be very successful in raising the economy, and be able to provide more jobs to the ones who have traveled to find work. It’s about time.

But we also must remember, if we have jobs and a healthy economy, there is no reason to increase taxes or layoffs. It’s time for city leaders to wake up.

Our county government, in my opinion, seems well organized. I feel they are capable of leading us to peace and prosperity. It is most important to bring business and create jobs to strengthen our economy, and the rest will all fall in place.

At 78, I still lead my business eight to 10 years ahead. A person who will only look on his toes is not a leader. A leader must always look ahead in order to succeed. Imagine a pilot or a captain of a ship, who only looks on his toes. They would not be very successful in reaching their destination.

The county and city have both been decaying due to a lack of common sense and leadership. A person who doesn’t believe in a good future for himself, or for others is not a leader. It is more like an old car purposefully stuck in traffic, holding everybody back. Life must go on with or without us.

It is time to give thanks for the ones who have been sacrificing themselves and doing what they can in order to ensure a good future.

I just read a tragic story in the San Jose Mercury News. It was about a man named Frank Sandoval who left his family to serve in Iraq.

Unfortunately, he was critically injured, and forced to be in a wheelchair, waiting for more surgery with his wife and children. The picture proved he was thankful to be alive.

What happens in others is sometimes even worse. Paying with their lives makes me wonder if we deserve for somebody to go through all of his just for our protection. Only God knows.

I would like to thank God for a great Christmas with our family together. The visit of my son Manuel Lima and wife Susanne, and our granddaughter Amanda, all from out of state, and grandson Adam from Cal Poly was just in time to help with the branding.

If I am right, the population of this county is over 53,000 people. Thinking about it, I have no idea if there is another person with my first name, Amadeu. If there is, I would like to hear about it.

To all, I hope you had a great Christmas as we did, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

As usual, this is only my opinion.

Amadeu Lima
