Dear Editor:

I want to thank the Free Lance for the superb piece entitled “A Veteran Perspective.”

You couldn’t have picked four finer representatives of the veteran community. I’m proud to personally know all four of these American heroes. Their service spans much of 20th century history.

As a dashing young cavalry officer, John Buchanan fought Hitler’s legions and shook hands with Russian soldiers at the Elbe River.

Chuck Williams suffered in the frozen wastes of Korea as a POW and showed remarkable courage by his escape from his captors.

Charlie Scott sweated it out in the jungles of Vietnam and looked the NVA in the eye.

RJ Andrade was there in the desert when George Bush Sr. drew the line in the sand.

These guys were the “pointy end of the spear” for our country and they didn’t let us down. Neither will the young men and women currently serving.

Saddam doesn’t know what’s about to hit him!

Thanks, Free Lance.
