It’s hard to find the line between what is wrong and what is
right.
There is no clear definition of the place were good becomes
evil. There are innumerable shades of gray and it’s in these places
that I find myself standing.
I have done good things and bad. I have burned bridges and
blazed trails. But in the end, I knew the difference. I know when
to stop, unlike the people we put our trust in every day.

I have done good things and bad. I have burned bridges and blazed trails. But in the end, I knew the difference. I know when to stop, unlike the people we put our trust in every day.

Politicians and companies, people of importance and power. You see and hear about them, how they lie, cheat and steal, but still they see no recourse for their actions. These people would steal food from a hungry child because they won’t pay their mothers more than minimum wage. Basically, the law says it’s a good thing to work three jobs to make enough money to support your family.

These facts aren’t hidden – people know this sort of stuff, but no one does anything, and for those who do, it’s too little too late. People trade their honor for money, their integrity for power, their sense of right and wrong for one more slice of the pie. So only the weak and small suffer. Because the companies want to preserve their precious status quo, the rich get richer and the poor poorer.

From those kinds of people I have since learned it is expectable to deprive children of an education and health care. I know it is OK for my clothes to be made by a 6-year-old girl in a Third World country because it is more cost effective. Because of these kind of practices, this kind of wanton abuse of power, some days I believe I have given up on the good of humanity.

Or maybe humanity has given up on us.
