Thursday night in the District 9 All-Star Tournament at
Continental.
Andrew Breen hit a grand slam in the third inning and the 9-10-year-old Hollister National-A team upended Atlantic 12-1 on Thursday night in the District 9 All-Star Tournament at Continental.

After Atlantic plated one run in the top half of the first inning, Hollister National-A scored 12 unanswered runs over the remaining five innings.

The squad got started in the third inning, scoring seven runs. After Riley Lange reached on an error and Garret Kelly was hit by a pitch, Quinn Mendoza singled to load the bases for Breen.

Breen took care of the 1-0 deficit with one swing of the bat, hitting a grand slam and giving Hollister National-A a 4-1 lead.

Also, later that same inning, Greg Moreno singled and John Batelle doubled for three more runs, putting Hollister National-A up 7-1 after three innings.

In the fifth, JoJo Telles singled and advanced on a fielder’s choice. Telles would later score on a sacrifice bunt from Riley Phelps.

In the sixth, Hollister National-A scored four more runs to increase their lead to 12-1.

Hollister National-A combined for 12 hits on the night, with Brandon Granger hitting 2-of-4, and Batelle going 2-for-3.

On the mound, Breen and Granger each threw three innings.

Also on Thursday, Hollister American-A defeated North County 6-1. Hollister American-A pitcher Michael Marler had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning, but allowed his first hit with one out in the fifth. Offensively, Hollister American-A combined for 11 hits.

Hollister National-A will now battle Hollister American-A on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Veterans Memorial Park, field two. Both teams are in the winners bracket with perfect 3-0 records.

In other news, Hollister National-B lost to Soledad on Thursday 4-3. Hollister National-B is now eliminated.

In the 9-and-under division, Hollister American played Hartnelll at North County, but suffered a 7-6 loss. Hollister American is now eliminated.
